The Musical Director |
Antony Tarlton
Following violin studies at the
Royal Manchester College of Music,
Antony Tarlton became a member of the
Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra
in June 1970. Since that time he has been primarily an
orchestral player, coming to South Wales in 1980 to join the
Orchestra of
Welsh National Opera
where he has been a principal player ever since, leading the
orchestra on many occasions.
His playing extends to chamber music
performances and violin and piano recitals with his wife, Sally.
The
Tarlton 'duo' has increasingly become the Tarlton 'trio' with
the addition of their 'cellist son, Ben, whose contribution to
their concerts has developed from a adding couple of little
pieces to being a very significant presence.
He has been conductor of the Dinas Powys Orchestra since January
1993. His first conducting experience was at the age of fifteen
when he rehearsed soloists and the chorus from a church choir
and put together an orchestra for three performances of Gilbert
and Sullivan’s operetta ‘Trial by Jury’. In the late 1970’s,
just before coming to South Wales, Antony became the conductor
of the Junior Chamber Orchestra of
Chethams’ Music School
in Manchester.
Being conductor of the Dinas Powys Orchestra is a great pleasure
and the orchestra’s success gives him great satisfaction.
